Modafinil is a popular eugeroic or wakefulness promoting drug approved by the FDA as a prescription medication used for Narcolepsy, Shift Works Sleep Disorder and Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome.
In this article I’ll discuss how to increase the effects of Modafinil to get the most out of your dosage.
So without further ado, let’s just get right into it, shall we?
I’ll start off by saying that Modafinil is a stronger drug than Adrafinil, and the effects you get from Modafinil are also more pronounced in the long term.
Modafinil is also only meant as a short-term medication to be used for medical purposes, so you should take it as such and hopefully only for a few weeks or months at most.
Just like Adrafinil, Modafinil’s effects are based on a person’s tolerance to the drug. So even if you take a very high dose of Modafinil, there comes a point of diminishing returns.
How it works
Modafinil is a eugeroic drug that increases alertness and wakefulness in humans.
It is classified as a stimulant but it does not share the same chemistry with amphetamines or cocaine which are also stimulants.
Instead, Modafinil’s stimulating effects are due to the fact that it interacts with the dopamine transporter (DAT) and Blocks the reuptake of dopamine in the brain’s neurons. This much is known for sure.
Recent studies have also shown that it has a reasonable affinity for norepinephrine, serotonin and epinephrine transporters as well.
This means that Modafinil affects all chemical transmitters in the brain, which in itself is a huge feat that few drugs possess.
Why is it so popular?
Modafinil is popular for its effects on wakefulness and alertness, which are very pronounced.
This characteristic has made the drug very desirable for shift workers in the US military and other organisations that need people to work continuously on night-shifts for long periods of time. Modafinil has been clinically approved for such purposes.
Another use for Modafinil is to treat excessive daytime sleepiness – usually referred to as “shift work sleep disorder” which is a debilitating condition plaguing many workers in shift work industries.
On the internet, people are primarily using the drug for cognitive enhancement purposes. Modafinil has been proven to improve one’s capacity for learning and memory.
Most users report increased focus and attention as well.
In the end, Modafinil is an amazing drug when it comes to improving cognitive function and boosting your capacity for cognitive processes. This is why millions of people worldwide are taking Modafinil on a daily basis.
How to increase its effectiveness
So now that we know what Modafinil is and how it works inside the body, let’s see how we can increase the effects by tweaking some variables we have control over.
The first variable I am going to discuss is dosage.
As previously stated, Modafinil is a very powerful drug that can easily induce dependency if you take too much of it.
As such, we want to keep our dosage below 200 mg per day – the threshold where most people experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop using the drug.
Uppers are also much more risky than downers because there’s a wide margin of error when it comes to dosage.
Your weight and general health should also be taken into consideration, as both are factors that will affect how much Modafinil you can realistically take.
I recommend starting off with a dosage of 100 mg and slowly increasing it per day until you reach a daily dosage of 200 mg.
The next step is to take Modafinil on an empty stomach. I believe that the onset of effects is much faster when you take Modafinil on an empty stomach as opposed to taking it with a meal or right after eating.
For this reason, I recommend taking Modafinil first thing in the morning as well as doing intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting has been proven to be superior to non-fasting in terms of how effective it is in boosting the effectiveness of Modafinil.
The last variable is that you must take Modafinil every day. I know, it sounds like a silly thing to discuss, but I’m going to say it anyway because I’m almost 100% sure that people are taking Modafinil only on the days they feel like taking it.
I also recommend stacking Modafinil with caffeine to kick-start the effects. You can take 100 to 200 mg of caffeine in tablet form or just drink a large cup of coffee.
Optimizing your dosage
Modafinil is an extremely potent drug which can elicit effects even from very small doses.
The typical starting point for most people is 100 mg per day. If you feel like you can handle more, try taking 200 mg per day.
Modafinil should ideally be taken on an empty stomach, which means before breakfast or with an empty stomach.
Taking Modafinil on an empty stomach may result in faster onset of effects by 30 to 60 minutes.
I don’t recommend taking Modafinil for more than two weeks at a time, as tolerance will build up and you won’t be able to handle the same dosage.
The effects of Modafinil are very pronounced and you can easily get hooked on it which is why I recommend taking it for at most two weeks at a time.
Afterwards, take an extended break from it and no less than two weeks later start again with a lower dosage.
If you want to enhance your focus and attention even more when taking Modafinil, I recommend taking high doses of caffeine and choline.
In order to enhance its effects, take it on an empty stomach, take it every day and stack it with caffeine.
Definitely do not overdo it because you don’t want to get addicted to Modafinil or hit a point of dimishing returns (you’re basically just wasting your money at this point).
Those are the most important variables to consider when it comes to optimizing the effectiveness of Modafinil.
Remember that enhancing and potentiating the effects of Modafinil is more about tweaking variables you have control over compared to blindly following instruction on how to take it.
