In this article I will discuss how Modafinil is great for studying and why you should probably use it if you’re looking to improve your grades (and just be more productive overall).
The first thing you will notice about Modafinil is that it makes you feel more awake and alert. Like EXTREMELY awake, which is exactly what you want for studying.
It will also allow you to focus on your work without getting distracted by other things. If you’re like me and you tend to get distracted by other things, this is going to be a God send.
Although Modafinil isn’t a study aid per se, it is great for studying and I use it on a weekly basis. If you’re looking for a nootropic to get through your classes with, Modafinil is certainly a great choice.
How it works
Modafinil also helps a lot with motivation and productivity. In fact, you’ll probably find that taking it will actually make you more motivated about your work and help you stay focused for longer periods of time.
It does this by increasing dopamine in the brain which makes it easier to get things done. Modafinil also lowers levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that is responsible for calming us down. Lowering GABA can translate into being able to focus more.
Modafinil has been studied quite a bit and the number of benefits it provides are greatly amplified when taken with caffeine. This combination will give you an attention span that would make the average person green with envy (the kind of envy that makes you want to work harder).
Benefits you may experience
Other benefits include increased energy, alertness and motivation in general.
This makes Modafinil a great nootropic for students looking to improve their grades and make better use of their time.
Modafinil also helps you get more done in less time. This means that you’ll be able to finish tasks faster and more efficiently.
You’ll stay focused for much longer periods of time and you won’t have your energy crash which will allow you to continue working at a high level of productivity throughout the day.
What you need to be aware of
When you hear about Modafinil, one of the things you normally hear is it’s addictive. I’m going to go ahead and say that is 100% false.
I have several friends who use Modafinil every day (and I use it weekly) in small doses and we aren’t hooked on it.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Modafinil isn’t addictive in high doses. The key is to use Modafinil responsibly and take it only on a schedule that you’re able to control.
You should also make sure that you consume a great choline source alongside Modafinil. This will help counteract the potential side effects of Modafinil (like headaches etc.)
Also, if you aren’t used to taking stimulants, Modafinil is going to have a big effect on your body. This means that you shouldn’t take it until you’re used to stimulants.
I made the mistake taking 200mg when I first tried it out which left me with headaches and insomnia. So don’t do that. A great dose to start out with is anywhere from 50 to 100 mg.
How much should I take?
The Modafinil dosage that I recommend from my own experience is 50 to 100 mg in the morning and no later than noon. If you take it after 1 pm you’ll have a terrible time falling asleep.
Also there comes a point of diminishing returns and I find that when I go over 100 mg I become too ‘stimulated’ to the point where I feel like a zombie.
I recommend actually taking 50 mg at a time and the 100 mg only as a last resort if you’re pulling an all-nighter. The 50mg doses from my experience will keep you alert throughout the day without any crash afterwards.
Can you stack it to boost academic performance?
The short answer is: Yes you can!
There is a way to stack Modafinil with other nootropics like Piracetam, Aniracetam or even Vitamin B12.
The Nootropics I just listed above all work synergistically meaning they amplify the effect of each other which means that you’ll experience greater cognitive benefits. Pretty cool, huh?
Modafinil is a powerful cognitive enhancer by itself, but if you stack it with other nootropics you’ll experience greater increases in your energy levels and cognitive abilities which will definitely help you out if you’re looking for the perfect study aid.
Modafinil Side effects (and how to deal with them)
The most common side effect of Modafinil is a headache which will occur when you first start taking it.
I experienced this myself. Thankfully I found that taking a choline source with Modafinil helped reduce the negative effects of the headaches.
Another possible side effect is insomnia which can be solved by taking 5-HTP.
I you’re taking Modafinil every day, your body will build up a tolerance to it. Modafinil has a half-life of about 12 hours so keep that in mind.
So is Modafinil good for studying?
Yes it absolutely is! Modafinil is great for studying and I recommend it to anyone who looks to improve their grades without the aid of a traditional stimulant (you avoid the crashes).
It will also help you stay awake and alert, a feature that will benefit you greatly if you’re studying for a test or an exam.
Also make sure you consume a choline source with Modafinil to avoid headaches or insomnia.
Modafinil is also a powerful cognitive enhancer and you can stack it with other nootropics to increase your focus, energy levels and overall cognition.
